To All, It is with great sadness and with extremely heavy hearts that we are advising you of the passing of Larry Pilkey. Larry has served the citizens of the Town of Markham with distinction since his recruitment to the Markham Fire and Emergency Services on January 5, 1987. Our thoughts and prayers are with Larry's wife Louise, and his sons Luke and Jake. Larry's family has expressed their appreciation for the comfort and support that everyone has provided during Larry's courageous battle and request that you respect their privacy while funeral and visitation arrangements are confirmed. Funeral and visitation will be communicated when arrangements are complete. Bill and Walter
Sgt. Ryan Russell Funeral details Posted on 17 Jan 2011
Brothers and Sisters,
Thanks to those of you who have responded to the call to show support for our fallen police brother, Sgt. Ryan Russell at the funeral on Tuesday. Details are as follows:
9am - Muster (on University Ave. between College & Dundas) 10:30am - Parade stepping off 1pm - Funeral 3pm - Reception following funeral
Parking will be available at Exhibition Place (Lakeshore Blvd and British Columbia Drive). A nominal fee will be collected for parking and the proceeds will be donated to a charity in Sgt. Ryan Russell's name. Parking is limited so everyone is encouraged to carpool. Shuttle buses will be provided from this location to the muster point which is at University Ave. between Dundas and College Streets.
All firefighters are requested to wear dress pants, white shirts with ties, white gloves, and dress cap. As the weather is unpredictable we ask that you wear your MFES sweaters, winter bomber jacket, black gloves (leather or otherwise) and warm footwear as we will be marching from University Ave and Dundas St to the South Entrance of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
Reception will follow immediately after the funeral in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
For those of you coming from or through Markham, we are planning to meet at 7:30am at Station 92 to carpool downtown.

CANADIAN FIRE CHIEF DIES IN THE LINE OF DUTY Posted on 04 Dec 2009
It is with deep regret that we advise you that the Chatham-Kent, Tilbury Fire Station, Chief Bob Thibert has died in the Line of Duty after he was rushed to the hospital after collapsing. The Chief was commanding fire crews at a working fire at about 0300 hours [December 3, 2009].
Companies were called to a fire at a mechanic shop and the Chief had just requested an aerial ladder when he collapsed.
Crews began CPR immediately and Chief Thibert was rushed to a Chatham-Kent hospital, where he died. As always, our sincere condolences to all affected.
IAFF Warning: Randolph Steepe Posted on 10 Sep 2009
Attention Canadian Affiliates
Further to a previous email sent from the Canadian Office on August 25th about Randolph Steepe, the individual who is purportedly cycling across Canada to raise awareness about human-generated electricity, we can advise that he has recently been stopping at firehalls in British Columbia. It was further reported that there were problems associated with his visit to a firehall in Vancouver.
Steepe claims that the IAFF has endorsed his initiative, but this is false. An internet search turns up numerous complaints against an individual by this name in Canada and other countries.
You are advised to exercise extreme caution if approached by this individual, and please make sure all of your members are aware of this notice.
